Fellowship 8 - Concerning Hobbits

The first eight minutes of this are quite dimly lit, aren't they?

I should address this as soon as possible: I'm not doing the Hobbit sequels. It's hard enough to write a blog post every day about a movie you *love*, let alone a movie that makes you feel nothing at all.1

That being said, let me say two Hobbit-related things right here:

  1. "What have I got in my pocket" is not a riddle. I do sympathise with Bilbo because he's trapped in a dark cave with a crazy goblin who wants to eat him (and in the revision he initially says it by accident), but *come on*. This is one of those weird literary cheats the author wants you to ignore, like Hanna running Slick as an alias in Heat. That's not how that works!

  2. I feel like Fellowship has two types of viewers: those who want to stay in the Shire even longer and those who just want to start the damn adventure already. Right now I'm a Type One, but we're about to spend the next 36 minutes in the Shire (from now to Sam's big step) so I wonder how long it'll be before I become a Type Two.

  1. I can picture it now. "Unexpected Journey 1 - Shoot Me in the Face". "Unexpected Journey 2 - No, Seriously".
